Today is the first day of school after long summer holidays. Children have prepared for school for some days and today they are wearing their new school uniforms. They are going to school with bunches of flowers. Their parents come to school to celebrate the day of knowledge with them too. Zhenia is very excited. She hasn't seen some of her friends since May and now she is happy to see them again. The children are excited. They speak about the summer, about their holidays and new friends. Zhenia tells them about her impressions of London and English friends. She boasts that she can speak English well now. The first bell has already rung and everybody is going in to the classroom. The school year has begun!
Before 1850, girls who went to school only learned music, drawing, dancing and French. Parents believed that was all they needed to be "ladies".
