James Cook
He was a famous British explorer who led three expeditions to the Pacific Ocean. He discovered many new islands and made careful maps. He was captain James Cook. The scientists and artists on his ships collected plants and made drawings of everything they saw. In Cook's time, ships were very dirty and unhealthy. Cook had some revolutionary ideas: he made his sailors eat plenty of fresh fruit and he purified the air in his ship by burning vinegar and gunpowder. Cook died in 1779.
